3 worksheets with a fun approach to spelling. Each of the 8 words used when spelt backwards makes a different word. Symbols are used to support SEND pupils. (Boardmaker licenced) Sheet 1 shows a symbol for each of the words. Children can cut these out and make pairs of matching words spelt forwards and backwards e.g star and rats. They can write out the pairs of words in the space provided. Sheet 2 asks children to read the sentences and fill in the missing words using the table. Sheet 3 asks children to underline the correct words from each pair to complete the sentences e.g.* I heard a wolf /flow howling in the night.*

Connect the resources to a trip to or a visit to the seaside, either virtual or real. Page 1 is a filled bus with sea creatures for children to talk about and colour in. Page 2 is an empty bus template. Children can draw themselves and their class mates going to the seaside in the windows. Alternatively, they can choose, colour, cut and paste Seaside pictures onto the bus. Page 3 shows a collection of sea creatures symbol cards that children can use to add to the bus, for their written work or duplicate for matching card games. Page 4 is a writing template about a seaside trip in black and white and page 5 is the same sheet but in colour. Pages 4 to 7 show colour flashcards of the objects seen in the maths sheets and found in the garden. Cut and duplicate (and laminate) for matching games, and to add to your displays. Page 8 is a colouring sheet showing black and white pictures of all of the symbols in the garden.
